Prediction and Preview

Liverpool 2 - 0 Bournemouth

Liverpool possible starting lineup:

Alisson; Frimpong, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Mac Allister, Szoboszlai; Salah, Wirtz, Gakpo; Ekitike

Bournemouth possible starting lineup:

Petrovic; Araujo, Senesi, Hill, Truffert; Adams, Scott; Semenyo, Tavernier, Ouattara; Evanilson

Liverpool will once again be without midfield anchor Ryan Gravenberch as they kick off their Premier League campaign, with the Dutchman serving a suspension from his red card against Crystal Palace on the final day of last season. Having already missed the Community Shield defeat to Manchester City due to the birth of his child, Gravenberch’s start to the season will be delayed by another week.

Jurgen Klopp may also have to cope without Joe Gomez, who is nursing an Achilles issue and is only likely to feature from the bench, while Conor Bradley remains a doubt with a muscular problem. In Gravenberch’s absence during the Community Shield, Curtis Jones impressed by completing all 53 of his passes – setting a new competition record – but a fit-again Alexis Mac Allister is expected to slot back into the holding midfield role.

Bournemouth, meanwhile, remain without Enes Unal and Lewis Cook as both continue their recoveries from knee injuries, while Ryan Christie (groin) and Justin Kluivert (calf) are also sidelined. Luis Sinisterra has shaken off a thigh problem but is unlikely to feature amid transfer speculation, and head coach Andoni Iraola has inquired about taking Brentford target Dango Ouattara in the squad.

On the positive side, Antoine Semenyo is available and eager to make an impact after signing a new contract, while summer recruit Djordje Petrovic – formerly of Chelsea – is set for his Premier League debut in goal. Bournemouth also added Lille defender Bafode Diakite to their ranks earlier this week, though his involvement in this fixture is yet to be confirmed.
