Manchester United’s preparations for the trip to Everton have been undermined by Matheus Cunha’s unfortunate training incident, which resulted in a head injury. The Brazilian remains under concussion protocol and will therefore play no part on Sunday.
Joshua Zirkzee led the line in Cunha’s absence last time out, but Ruben Amorim could now be tempted to redeploy Mason Mount further forward. Such a tweak may see Bryan Mbeumo operate as an auxiliary centre-forward to provide added movement in attack.
A defensive change is also anticipated, with Diogo Dalot likely to replace Patrick Dorgu. However, Benjamin Sesko (knee) and Harry Maguire (thigh) are still sidelined and unavailable for selection.
As for Crystal Palace, their defeat to Strasbourg came at a cost. Will Hughes limped off during the first half with a knee issue and is unlikely to retain his starting spot, even if he is passed fit for the matchday squad. His expected replacement is Red Devils target Adam Wharton.
The hosts’ injury list remains lengthy, with Caleb Kporha (back), Borna Sosa (knock), Cheick Doucoure (knee), Chadi Riad (knee) and Rio Cardines (adductor) all ruled out. Wharton should be one of two midfield alterations for Palace, alongside Daichi Kamada stepping in for Jefferson Lerma. Meanwhile, defensive mainstay Chris Richards is poised to return to the XI, relegating Jaydee Canvot to the bench.
