Prediction and Preview

Aston Villa 3 - 1 Everton

Aston Villa possible starting lineup:

Bizot; Cash, Konsa, Torres, Digne; Bogarde, Tielemans; Buendia, Rogers, McGinn; Watkins

Everton possible starting lineup:

Pickford; Patterson, O'Brien, Tarkowski, Mykolenko; Armstrong, Garner, Rohl; McNeil, Barry, Grealish

Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery has been dealt two fresh injury concerns following his side’s last two outings. Boubacar Kamara picked up a knee problem in the recent defeat to Tottenham Hotspur and is set to miss this weekend’s fixture, while Emiliano Martinez is a doubt after suffering a calf issue against Crystal Palace.

Kamara joins new signing Alysson (unspecified issue), Ross Barkley (knee) and Amadou Onana (muscle) on Villa’s absentee list. However, there is some positive news for the hosts, as forward Evann Guessand has returned to the squad following his involvement at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Guessand’s availability is timely, particularly after Donyell Malen completed a permanent move to Roma. The former Arsenal youngster featured in Villa’s FA Cup victory over Spurs, but Ollie Watkins is expected to reclaim his place in the starting lineup this weekend.

Everton, meanwhile, welcome back Jack Grealish, who has completed a one-match suspension after his red card against Wolverhampton Wanderers. However, Michael Keane remains unavailable, with two games still to serve following the club’s unsuccessful appeal.

Grealish’s return is a major boost for David Moyes’s side. The Manchester City loanee has created 36 chances from open play in the 2025-26 Premier League season — the second-highest total in the division behind Jeremy Doku’s 39 — while no player has drawn more fouls than his tally of 52.

Moyes is not expecting any further reinforcements from his injury list, meaning Jarrad Branthwaite (hamstring), Seamus Coleman (hamstring), Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (thigh), Tim Iroegbunam (groin) and Carlos Alcaraz (unspecified) will all remain sidelined. In addition, Idrissa Gueye and Iliman Ndiaye are still away on international duty, with Senegal preparing for the Africa Cup of Nations final.
