Racing forward Asier Villalibre will be unavailable for Thursday’s clash after suffering a hamstring injury during the draw with Real Valladolid earlier this month. Head coach Alberto rang the changes for the impressive victory over Villarreal in the previous round, and while he may stick with a largely strong XI for this contest, rotation remains a possibility. Pablo Ramón, Mario García and Suleiman Camara are among those who could be handed starting roles as Alberto looks to freshen up his side.

Barcelona, meanwhile, remain without Andreas Christensen, who is facing an extended spell on the sidelines after sustaining a partial ACL tear. Gavi continues his recovery following knee surgery in September and is not yet ready to return. Frenkie de Jong will miss the match through suspension after receiving a late red card in Sunday’s Spanish Super Cup final.

Hansi Flick is expected to rotate his squad following Barcelona’s taxing trip to Saudi Arabia, with Ronald Araújo, Marc Casadó and Marcus Rashford all pushing for inclusion in the starting lineup. In goal, Marc-André ter Stegen could feature after playing in the previous round against Guadalajara, although Flick may opt for Wojciech Szczęsny as he considers resting first-choice goalkeeper Joan García.
