Prediction and Preview

 Barcelona 2 - 1 Atletico Club

Barcelona possible starting lineup:

J Garcia; Kounde, Cubarsi, Martin, Balde; E Garcia, De Jong; Raphinha, Pedri, Yamal; Torres

Athletic Bilbao possible starting lineup:

Simon; Gorosabel, Vivian, Paredes, Boiro; Ruiz de Galarreta, Jauregizar; I Williams, Sancet, N Williams; Guruzeta

Barcelona could receive a timely boost ahead of their Spanish Super Cup clash, with Ronald Araújo edging closer to a return. The Uruguay international has recently rejoined first-team training after taking time away from the pitch to focus on his mental health, and his availability would strengthen an already settled squad.

The Catalan side are otherwise in good shape, with Andreas Christensen and Gavi the only confirmed absentees, both sidelined by knee injuries. Hansi Flick has plenty of tactical flexibility, particularly in midfield, where Eric García’s recent performances have impressed. His form could allow Pedri to operate in a more advanced role, while Marcus Rashford may drop to the bench, opening the door for Lamine Yamal and Raphinha to start in the wide positions.

In attack, Robert Lewandowski is pushing for a recall at centre-forward, but Ferran Torres is still expected to get the nod from the start, having impressed with his recent contributions.

Athletic Club, meanwhile, travel to the Super Cup with significant selection issues of their own. Yeray Álvarez is suspended, while injuries have ruled out Yuri Berchiche, Aymeric Laporte, Beñat Prados, Unai Egiluz and Maroan Sannadi.

Despite those absences, Ernesto Valverde will be able to call upon the Williams brothers in attack. Nico Williams, who continues to attract interest from Barcelona, is set to feature on one flank, with Iñaki Williams operating on the opposite side. Gorka Guruzeta is expected to retain his place up front after scoring against Osasuna last time out, holding off competition from Álex Berenguer.
