Team News & Injury Update

Liverpool head into the weekend with largely positive fitness news, although one late concern emerged in midweek. Federico Chiesa picked up an unspecified injury during Tuesday’s training session and was unable to feature against Marseille, despite taking part in the pre-match warm-up.

At this stage, it remains unclear whether the issue is serious enough to rule the Italian winger out of Saturday’s Premier League clash, with Liverpool expected to monitor his condition closely in the coming days.

There was more encouraging news on the attacking front, however, as Mohamed Salah returned to the starting lineup on Wednesday following his Africa Cup of Nations commitments. The 33-year-old is now expected to be in contention for his first Premier League start since November 22, having come through his return unscathed.

Liverpool are still without Alexander Isak (calf), Conor Bradley (knee) and Giovanni Leoni (knee), all of whom remain sidelined. Meanwhile, Ibrahima Konate missed the midweek fixture for personal reasons but is expected to be available again for the trip south.

AFC Bournemouth, meanwhile, suffered fresh injury setbacks in their draw with Brighton, losing both Marcus Tavernier and Amine Adli to physical issues. Head coach Andoni Iraola has confirmed that Tavernier will be out for “some time” after sustaining a hamstring injury, while Adli is expected to recover in time to be involved this weekend.

Tavernier joins a growing list of absentees for the Cherries, including Will Dennis (ankle), Enes Unal (groin), David Brooks (ankle), Tyler Adams (knee), Ben Doak (thigh) and Justin Kluivert (knee).

Despite the injury concerns, Bournemouth have moved swiftly in the transfer market, completing a £10.4 million deal for 20-year-old Hungarian midfielder Alex Toth. The youngster is expected to be included on the bench for Saturday’s encounter.
