Prediction and Preview

Manchester United 2 - 1 Fulham

Manchester United possible starting lineup:

Lammens; Dalot, Maguire, Martinez, Shaw; Mainoo, Casemiro; Diallo, Fernandes, Mbeumo; Cunha

Fulham possible starting lineup:

Leno; Castagne, Andersen, Cuenca, Sessegnon; Berge, Iwobi; Wilson, Smith Rowe, Chukwueze; Jimenez

Manchester United’s night against Arsenal proved to be a tale of extremes for defender-turned-attacker Patrick Dorgu. After netting a stunning goal-of-the-season contender, the Dane’s joy quickly turned to despair as he suffered a serious hamstring injury, one that is expected to sideline him for around 10 weeks.

Dorgu’s absence could open the door for either Matheus Cunha or Benjamin Šeško, but Cunha should be the frontrunner for a starting role after his sensational winner in North London. The Brazilian can operate either out wide or through the middle, potentially alongside Bryan Mbeumo on the left.

Dorgu is one of only three fitness concerns for the Red Devils this weekend, with Matthijs de Ligt still nursing a back problem and Joshua Zirkzee recovering from an unspecified issue. Encouragingly for Erik ten Hag, Zirkzee has returned to training and could yet be included in the matchday squad.

Fulham head coach Marco Silva also has selection decisions to weigh up. Right-back Kenny Tete is pushing for a return after a thigh injury, but Rodrigo Muniz and Saša Lukić are expected to remain sidelined for a little while longer with similar problems.

The Cottagers have been boosted by the return of Nigeria internationals Calvin Bassey, Alex Iwobi and Samuel Chukwueze following the Africa Cup of Nations. Chukwueze would ordinarily be in contention for a starting berth, though he is currently mourning the loss of his mother. Silva has not ruled out the winger featuring in some capacity, while new signing Oscar Bobb may have to wait a bit longer for his Fulham debut.
