Manchester United vs Brighton – Team News & Preview
Saturday’s contest will likely come too soon for Manchester United defender Lisandro Martínez, who continues his recovery from a serious knee injury sustained in February. However, the Argentine has made encouraging progress and could return to first-team training later this week. Leny Yoro is pushing for a recall at centre-back, potentially replacing one of Harry Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt, or Luke Shaw, while manager Rúben Amorim must decide whether to retain Amad Diallo and Diogo Dalot as wing-backs or hand Patrick Dorgu a start on the left.
In attack, Benjamin Šeško—who netted in back-to-back Premier League games before being benched against Liverpool—could return to the starting XI at the expense of Mason Mount. The Slovenian forward may be supported by Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, with the latter boasting an impressive record against Brighton, having been directly involved in six goals (three goals, three assists) versus the Seagulls.
As for Brighton, Solly March, Adam Webster (both knee), and Jack Hinshelwood (ankle) remain unavailable through injury. The quartet of Kaoru Mitoma (ankle), Joel Veltman (calf), Diego Gómez (hip), and Brajan Gruda (knee) face late fitness tests ahead of kickoff. Maxim De Cuyper could challenge Ferdi Kadıoğlu for a start at left-back, but if Mitoma or Gómez are not passed fit, the Belgian may instead operate on the left wing as he did in the recent victory over Newcastle.
Midfielder Carlos Baleba, who has been linked with a move to Manchester United, is in contention to start in midfield, while Danny Welbeck—on a hot streak with four goals in his last three Premier League matches—could lead the line alongside Georginio Rutter and Yankuba Minteh.
