Prediction and Preview

Arsenal 3 - 1 Tottenham

Arsenal possible starting lineup:

Raya; Timber, Saliba, Mosquera, Hincapie; Eze, Zubimendi, Rice; Saka, Merino, Trossard

Tottenham Hotspur possible starting lineup:

Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Spence; Palhinha, Sarr; Kudus, Simons, Odobert; Richarlison

Arsenal had been hoping for positive developments on the injury front this month, but instead, supporters were dealt a crushing blow: the influential Gabriel Magalhães could be sidelined for the remainder of 2025 after sustaining a serious hamstring injury while on international duty with Brazil.

Adding to Mikel Arteta’s selection woes, Riccardo Calafiori has still not returned to training following the hip issue that forced him out of Italy’s camp. Despite earlier optimism about his availability for the derby, the defender remains doubtful, meaning both Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié may be needed against Tottenham.

Further up the pitch, Martin Ødegaard and Kai Havertz (knee) are progressing slower than expected, and Arteta declined to confirm whether Gabriel Martinelli (muscle), Viktor Gyökeres (hamstring) or Noni Madueke (knee) will be fit in time for Sunday’s clash. Gabriel Jesus (ACL) continues to train but is not yet ready for competitive action.

Tottenham, meanwhile, head into the derby having convincingly won the injury battle. Manager Thomas Frank confirmed no fewer than eight fitness boosts during his pre-match press conference, including the assured availability of Pape Sarr, Lucas Bergvall and Randal Kolo Muani, who will feature while wearing a protective mask after suffering a jaw fracture.

Frank also revealed that Mohammed Kudus, Archie Gray, Kota Takai, Ben Davies and Radu Drăgușin have all returned to team training. Notably, Drăgușin is on the brink of completing his long-awaited comeback from an ACL injury after taking part in a behind-closed-doors friendly during the international break.

Spurs’ only confirmed absentees for the derby are Dominic Solanke (ankle), Yves Bissouma (ankle), Dejan Kulusevski (knee) and James Maddison (ACL). Sunday will also mark Tottenham’s first North London derby since 2014 without either Harry Kane or Son Heung-min—a duo responsible for 27% of the club’s Premier League goals against Arsenal.
