Barcelona vs Copenhagen: Champions League Preview

Barcelona have collected 13 points from their seven matches in the 2025–26 Champions League league phase, recording four wins, one draw and two defeats. That return leaves the Catalan side ninth in the standings, narrowly outside the automatic qualification places for the last 16.

As things stand, Hansi Flick’s side would be forced into a knockout-round playoff, but the margins remain fine. Barcelona are level on points with eighth-placed Chelsea, as well as Newcastle United and Paris Saint-Germain above them, meaning a top-eight finish is still within reach.

The permutations on the final matchday are complex, but the task for Barcelona is straightforward: victory is required to give themselves any chance of finishing inside the top eight, after which they will rely on results elsewhere going their way.

While Barcelona have been impressive going forward — scoring 18 goals across their seven matches — defensive frailties have been evident. Conceding 13 times, they boast one of the leakiest records among the top 15 teams, a concern Flick will be keen to address as the knockout rounds approach.

The hosts come into the contest in confident mood after a 3-0 La Liga victory over Real Oviedo, a result that lifted them back to the top of the domestic standings ahead of Real Madrid.

Copenhagen Overview

Copenhagen sit 26th in the league-phase table, having accumulated eight points from two wins, two draws and three defeats. The Lions are level on points with the four teams directly above them and remain in contention for a playoff spot.

Qualification remains possible with a win over Barcelona, provided at least two of the nine teams on eight, nine or 10 points fail to secure the results they need. It is a tall order, but Jacob Neestrup’s side arrive with momentum, having taken seven points from their last three Champions League outings — wins over Kairat and Villarreal, followed by a 1-1 draw with Napoli.

Copenhagen have been on a winter break since early December, though they warmed up for this encounter with a 3-2 friendly victory over B.93 on January 23.

The two sides have met twice previously in the Champions League, during the 2010–11 group stage. Barcelona claimed a 2-0 home win, while the return fixture in Denmark finished 1-1.
