Spain vs Czech Republic: Match Preview

Spain will look to continue their impressive start to the 2026-27 UEFA Nations League when they face Czech Republic in their upcoming League A Group 3 fixture.

The reigning world and European champions began their campaign with a thrilling 3-2 victory over England at Wembley on September 26. Three days later, La Roja produced another strong performance, defeating Croatia 4-1 to move onto six points.

Luis de la Fuente's side have now won their last nine matches across all competitions and remain unbeaten after 90 minutes since their friendly defeat to Colombia in March 2024. Spain will enter this fixture looking to maintain that remarkable run and strengthen their position at the top of the group.

Spain also have a strong record against Czech Republic. The two nations have met seven times, with Spain recording five victories and two draws. Their most recent encounter came in June 2022, when Spain secured a 2-0 Nations League victory.

Czech Republic aiming to bounce back

Czech Republic face a difficult challenge after losing both of their opening Nations League matches.

Santi Denia's team began their campaign with a 2-1 home defeat against Croatia before suffering another 2-0 loss to England three days later. Those results have left Czech Republic at the bottom of Group 3 of League A without a point.

The upcoming matches against Spain and England will therefore be important for the Czech side as they look to recover their campaign.

Czech Republic are competing in League A for only the second time in their history after earning promotion from League B. Across their previous 23 Nations League matches, they have recorded 10 wins, three draws and 10 defeats.

Their recent form, however, has been disappointing, with the team recording only one victory in their last six matches across all competitions.

Spain Team News

Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente is expected to make several changes to the team that started against Croatia.

Aymeric Laporte could return to the defence, while Rodri and Dani Olmo are also expected to come back into the midfield. Nico Williams is another player pushing for a starting position in the final third.

Ferran Torres will miss the match after withdrawing from the squad with an ankle injury.

Lamine Yamal remains one of Spain's key attacking threats. The Barcelona winger has enjoyed an excellent international break, scoring three goals and providing one assist across his first two matches.

Czech Republic Team News

Czech Republic will be without Pavel Sulc, who is suspended following his red card against England.

Adam Karabec is also a major doubt after being forced off during the first half of that match.

Alex Kral and Ondrej Lingr could be introduced into the starting lineup, while Adam Hlozek is expected to remain an important attacking option. Hlozek has already scored five goals for the Czech national team.

Match Outlook

Spain enter the contest in excellent form and will be aiming to extend their winning run after impressive victories over England and Croatia.

Czech Republic, meanwhile, need a positive result after losing their opening two matches. Their defensive organisation and ability to cope with Spain's attacking quality will be crucial.

With Spain already sitting on six points and Czech Republic still searching for their first point, the match presents two teams at very different stages of their Nations League campaigns.
