Mohun Bagan Super Giant vs Chennaiyin FC: Clifford Miranda’s All-Indian Side Set for Super Cup Test

Chennaiyin FC are gearing up for their 2025–26 AIFF Super Cup campaign under new head coach Clifford Miranda, with their opening clash set against Mohun Bagan Super Giant on October 25 at the Fatorda Stadium. Drawn in Group A, the Marina Machans will also face East Bengal FC and Dempo SC in what promises to be a tightly contested group.

Miranda, a former India international with 45 caps, brings with him a deep understanding of Indian football. Having previously managed Goa and Odisha, he becomes Chennaiyin’s first-ever Indian head coach, leading an all-Indian squad into the tournament.

Speaking ahead of the big game, Miranda acknowledged the challenges of preparation but expressed faith in his players.

“For most of the teams, not training for more than five months is always difficult. Within a short period, we need to turn up and play three games in six days. It’s tough physically and mentally, but we’re ready,” he said. “I believe in this group — they’re talented, hungry, and eager to prove themselves. We should, and must, be ready for the 25th.”

Miranda also emphasized the significance of fielding a fully Indian side:

“It’s an opportunity for the players to show how far Indian football has come. It’s not just about results, but effort, mentality, and attitude. We want to show that we can do it on our own.”

Chennaiyin’s 24-man squad strikes a fine balance between experience and youth, with senior players like Pritam Kotal anchoring the defense, Jiteshwor Singh and Lalrinliana Hnamte controlling midfield, and Irfan Yadwad and Farukh Choudhary leading the attack.

Joining his coach at the pre-match press conference, Farukh Choudhary echoed the team’s readiness:

“Training has been intense despite the short preparation time. Playing three games in six days will be tough, but we’re mentally prepared. I’m excited to be back at the club and looking forward to the game tomorrow.”

With Miranda’s leadership and a determined all-Indian squad, Chennaiyin FC will look to make a strong statement as they kick off their Super Cup campaign against the defending ISL champions.
